Behind the Prints - Mariposa
The second in our mini series explores the bright and vibrant, painterly Mariposa print. Printed onto beautifully sheer silk georgette in an abstract, hand painted style, the soft , paper fine petals of the Mariposa flower are given a colourful, vibrant representation to capture the life and joy of Cuba. The National Flower of Cuba, the Mariposa ( White Ginger) is an iconic part of Cuban scenery. Literally meaning butterfly due to its shape, women used to adorn themselves with these fragrant flowers in Spanish colonial times. Because of the intricate structure of the petals, women hid and carried secret messages important to the independence cause under it. It is commonly sold in the streets, used in bridal bouquets for its symbolic meaning and intense , jasmine like scent and given as offerings to Saints.
Deep indigo shades offset pops of bright chartreuse, soft teal and white and is anchored with jet black trims to add a modern edge. We think this print is the essence of summer dressing and a gorgeous addition to your holiday wardrobe.
